Green Labs
Implementing innovative sustainability techniques across all of the health science schools
The goal of OSHS is to implement innovative techniques across all the health science schools to reduce our greenhouse emissions in line with the campus goal of 50% by 2030 (2008 baseline) and to contribute to the Pittsburgh 2030 District goal of 50% reductions in energy use intensity (consumption per square foot) by 2030. In collaboration with the Pitt Sustainability, we have several programs that individuals and labs can be involved with.
Green Labs
There are more than 2000 research labs at the University of Pittsburgh which represents a huge opportunity to reduce Pitt’s carbon footprint. Our goal is to work with Pitt Sustainability to support all the health science labs to implement sustainable options and earn the Pitt Green Labs designation.
There are many ways labs can get started toward a greener and more sustainable lab. One option is to order a Pitt Green Lab Sample Box. The box contains 20 sample items from Fisher Scientific’s Green Choice Products and is available for $0.01 through the Dietrich School Scientific Stockroom.
The Pipette Tip Box Recycling pilot helps labs reduce landfill waste and single-stream recycling contamination. Pre-paid Polycarbin pipette tip box recycling containers can be purchased for $0.01 from the Dietrich School Scientific Stockroom via the PantherExpress punchout. Just search for “SB1.” For detailed ordering instructions.
